I like how the name of the day (mon, tue etc) is included as this can be an important marker in some context. However I do not think that there is one solution that fits all use cases perfectly. If you are booking your trip for next year this kind of date picker will result in a lot of clicks. Also, if you have to select your birth date just writing it is probably the fastest. And then there is something to be said about the typical monthly calendar view. Not sexy or original but very convenient when the date you want to select is "Friday in three weeks". Need to count the Fridays as they scroll by, no need to calculate the date to be sure you have selected the right one. You can just see it and pick it.
